Today is Suspended on a Tree He who Suspended the Earth Upon the Waters

Holy and Great Thursday.

I have ripped this video from Fr. Joseph Honeycutt at Orthodixie who ripped it from Molly at Close to Home. The late Archbishop JOB sings the 15th Antiphon from Matins of Great and Holy Friday. It is beautiful – enjoy! Lyrics are below the video.

Today is suspended on a tree He who suspended the earth upon the waters.

The King of the angels is decked with a crown of thorns.

He who wraps the heavens in clouds is wrapped in the purple of mockery.

He who freed Adam in the Jordan is slapped on the face.

The Bridegroom of the Church is affixed to the Cross with nails.

The Son of the virgin is pierced by a spear.

We worship Thy passion, O Christ.

We worship Thy passion, O Christ.

We worship Thy passion, O Christ.

Show us also Thy glorious resurrection

  1. Father James, thank you for sharing this! I’ve been reading through your last couple of Holy Week posts – they were much appreciated! I like the term, “Extravagant Love.” How am I loving Christ extravagantly? It’s a good question. One I will be asking myself several times throughout the next couple of days (and hopefully beyond). Peace to you!

FR. James: Thanks for sharing this. Fr. Steven sang it beautifully at our Holy Thurs. service, but of course, it wasn’t recorded. It’s great to have it on my computer and to be able to play it over and over again.
